With Easter right around the corner, it’s time to start planning for your fun Easter Activities! As a mom, Easter can be a beautifully busy time of year so it’s important to make time for fun activities with your kids! 

 

The egg is a wonderful symbol of resurrection. Out of a seemingly dead egg, new life comes. As we teach our children to pray in preparation for this Easter season, perhaps as we enjoy eating a hard-boiled egg, let us reflect on this mystery with words such as these: 

 

“Creator God, we see this mystery of death into life in the symbol of an Easter egg. Let us always remember your kindness and generosity, as we prepare for Easter, and share in the glory of the risen Christ.” 

Activities for Kids

Here are a few activities you can do to help your kids understand the meaning of Easter in a fun way: 

  1. Giant Papier Mache Balloon Easter Eggs
  2. Papier Mache Balloon Easter Bunny
  3. Easter Wreath with plastic eggs
  4. Paper Easter Wreath

On Easter Sunday, let the kids have a surprise when they break open their Easter eggs and bunnies for Easter messages & Candies.

Acknowledging God’s Marvelous Works

Also, remember to acknowledge and show gratitude for God’s marvelous works. 

He died for our sins and RISEN so that we may have new life in him. Alleluia. Let’s give mighty thanks and praise to our savior.  Let’s not look at the empty tomb and cry but rejoice and give praises to the living God.  In the book of Acts, there is new normal after Christ’s resurrection. The fishermen, tax collectors,s and minuscule members of the society become more vocal and bold in praises and thanksgiving with the help of the Holy Spirit. How prominent the message is for today.

 

Easter Sunday has just gone but let not enthusiasm for the resurrection fade away. Just like the easter candle, let us kindle our enthusiasm with praises and thanksgiving with the help of the Holy Spirit and become a true witness of HIS love. May we share the same boldness and desire as that of King David who danced undignified just to give thanks and praise to God.

Pentecost

Hello Everyone! 

 

The feast of Pentecost, marking the birth of the Church and the end of the Easter season, is right around the corner! That definitely calls for a celebration as we prepare to enter ordinary time. 

 

As we approach the end of the Easter season, it’s important to talk to your kids about the importance of Pentecost and what it means for us as Catholics. Here are some fun activities and ideas you can do with your kids. As always, these are low-prep, accessible activities for kids of all ages! 

 

Tell the Story of Pentecost

It’s important for our kids to know the story of Pentecost and why we celebrate it. 

 

Questions to ask your kids: 

  • Why is Pentecost important?
  • How do we celebrate it at church? 
  • How can we celebrate it at home? 

Holy Spirit & The Wind

Since one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit is wind, create a Pentecost Pinwheel or Pentecost Wind-sock. With some construction paper, scissors, and glue or tape you can easily create this simple, yet fun craft. 

As you are working together on this activity, consider talking to your kids about why the wind symbolizes the Holy Spirit. Ask them to think about the Holy Spirit next time it is windy!

Trace a dove picture.

Write the names of all the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit

Knowledge, Counsel, Piety, Understanding, Wisdom, Fortitude, Fear of the Lord

Stick it to orange ribbons or streamers

Pentecost Hat

Make a hat for each child with paper! This hat will remind the kids of the tongues of fire falling on their heads as it did on the disciples. This is a fun, potentially silly way to remind your kids of the importance and meaning of Pentecost.

 

Making Food for Pentecost 

The symbolic color for Pentecost is red, so consider having a red-themed day of food! Brainstorm with your kids as many red foods as they can think of and try eating as many of them as you can! It could turn into a fun challenge to try and eat red food all day. 

Some ideas of “red” food include: 

  • Strawberries
  • Peppers
  • Red Velvet Cake
  • Apples
  • Tomatoes

The Three Pillars of Lent (with kids)

Lent is a time for fasting, prayer, and giving. It’s a time for us to truly reflect on our lives while living each day through Christ. There are three Pillars to guide us through Lent: Almsgiving, Fasting, and Prayer. Each of this are important pieces to help us stand strong and live through Christ each day.

Prayer

“But when you pray, go to your private room, shut yourself in, and so pray to our Father who is in that secret place, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6: 1-18

Prayer is the act of turning to God, listening, and talking to him. To read his words and meditate with him. It’s celebrating his life and works. It is a way to grow closer to God.

Did you know that the Old Testament mentions prayer is like incense to the Lord?

 

Some ways you can live this pillar:

  • Meditate on the Holy Scripture and stories of the Saints
  • Receive the sacraments of confession and communion regularly

Fasting

“When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting.” Mathew 6, 16:18

Fasting is the practice of eating in moderation, restricting yourself to only a small amount of food that day. During lent we fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Abstinence from meat is practiced all Fridays. Fasting does not have to be limited to food, it may include other habits or luxuries in life.

 The 3rd Sunday of Lent focuses on understanding fasting.

Some ways you can live this pillar:

  • Moderation when eating and drinking
  • Reducing expenses
  • Abstaining from the internet, TV, and other forms of entertainment

 

Almsgiving: 

“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”  Luke 12:15

Almsgiving is the act of loving, listening, and giving to others. This gift isn’t about money, the biggest gift we can share is Time. We talk about this in the 4th week.

Some ways you can live this pillar:

  • Spend quality time with your family
  • Help others who are in need
  • Pray for those around you
  • Be generous with charity, patience, and forgiveness

 

These Pillars are points of strength that help us to truly understand Lent and prepare for the celebration of Easter. Talking to our kids about these Pillars is important because it helps them navigate the importance of this season.
